Real talk: Our kids are pretty cute. But they’re not baby panda cute.

I mean …

That baby panda is so stupendously adorable, she makes my own baby look like a grizzled piece of chicken-fried steak. (Sorry, son. You’re no panda.)

Disneynature’s Born in China opens in theaters today, and the cute factor is definitely a selling point for me. The film follows the stories of three animal families: a doting panda bear mama who guides her growing baby as she begins to explore the world, a 2-year-old golden snub-nosed monkey who feels displaced by his baby sister, and a mother snow leopard who faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs — all of whom live in extreme and sometimes unforgiving environments.

But mostly, it’s 79 minutes of cute bombs lobbed at the screen. Look at this monkey.

The tiniest, cutest monkey you've ever seen. He's kind of beige and furry with a mouth in the shape of an O. He almost looks like a shaggy thumb.

Fact: This snow leopard is made with rainbows and cuddles.

This panda holds a one-way ticket, and it’s taking her straight to my heart.

The bonus is that I can squee into my popcorn for an hour, and my son will actually learn something from this film.

Moviegoers will explore China’s vast forests, enormous deserts and remote mountain ranges, discovering the enchanting, rarely seen inhabitants of these locations. So it’s like getting a passport stamp to China without the hassle of a long flight.

Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan, who became a father while directing this movie, noted that China’s unique perspectives on life and death are what shaped the central narrative for this film.

“In China, death is not the end of life. It’s another beginning,” he said. “Wildlife has many beginnings, and we wanted to explore that in the movie.”

One more thing: Moviegoers who see Born in China during the opening week (April 21 through 27) will benefit the World Wildlife Fund. Disneynature will make a contribution based on opening week attendance to the WWF to help protect China’s wild snow leopards and pandas.
