New blog about Photos: Cozy feeding stations are popping up at Target stores
Breastfeeding in public — regardless of how comfortable you are with the idea — isn’t always an easy feat. Sure, some mothers can effortlessly nurse their babes while strolling around the grocery store. But other new mamas (like myself) need to be seated and, preferably, to use a nursing pillow in order to get their babies in just the right position.
Either way, Target has your back. That’s because certain Target locations have started providing convenient feeding stations right out in the open.
A store in Braunfels, Texas, boasts two comfy chairs with pillows for parents and their hungry babies. Whether breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, caregivers can take a seat, borrow a pillow, blanket, or nursing cover-up (if they want one), and get their feed on. Mamas are also welcome to a box of free breast pads. This station — which was originally shared by the Facebook community Breastfeeding Mama Talk — seems inviting and is easily accessible. The sign reads, “Feeding Station. Please Enjoy!”
Another Target store in Traverse City, Michigan boasts a similar set-up. Cozy, right?
Of course, the fact that Target is supportive of breastfeeding isn’t exactly news. (The company’s awesome breastfeeding policies are even stressed in its employee handbook!) Mothers can nurse with or without a cover anywhere in the store. Or, if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can utilize fitting rooms for added privacy. The addition of these dedicated feeding areas out in the open only reiterates the company’s stance on the matter.
I don’t know about you, but I’m loving these adorable nursing nooks. Wouldn’t it be great if every store had an open area dedicated to breastfeeding? I know I would take full advantage of one. Just take all of my money, Target. You get me.
