New blog about Pregnancy photos bridge the miles between military parents-to-be

Nicole Bedwell’s husband, Navy Corpsman Wesley Bedwell, has been deployed overseas since November – just a month after the couple found out that they were expecting their first baby.

Though he wasn’t able to be with her throughout the pregnancy, Nicole, 19, wanted to find a way to include Wesley. When it came time to book a maternity photo shoot, she decided on the perfect way to do just that, by incorporating her husband, who happened to be thousands of miles away, into the pictures. Traci Fugitt, owner of Traci Lynn Photography in Mabank, Texas, was only too happy to help.

“I just wanted him in the picture because he wasn’t able to be here during the whole pregnancy so she cropped him in,” Nicole explains.

The result? Well, it’s only one of the most moving maternity photos I’ve ever seen.

“With Wesley being overseas, I had an idea to use the Texas bluebonnets to emphasize how she was MILES away in Texas, literally 7000 miles, and yet they were both waiting for Pyper, together,” Traci writes on her blog.

When Nicole saw the finished image, she says she was moved to tears.

“It’s been really emotional for me to have my husband gone my whole pregnancy, so the fact that Traci was able to include him in my maternity session was very emotional. We will never be having our first child again. He’s my family, so having him included touched my heart. It made me happy.”

I can only imagine how difficult it would be to be apart for during such an important and life-changing time. I leaned so heavily on my husband during those long months – sometimes just to lift my spirits, sometimes to help hoist me off the couch! Having him there was such a relief.

A picture obviously isn’t going to replace that physical presence, but what a meaningful memento for both of them to treasure. And I’m sure little Pyper, who is set to make her big arrival today, will love to look at it one day as well.

And the best news of all? Wesley is home! The expectant dad may have missed out on those pregnancy hormones, but he will be right by Nicole’s side when their baby girl enters the world.

“He wasn’t supposed to make it for the birth, since Nicole developed hypertension and has to deliver this week,” Traci reveals. “But working with Red Cross, Nicole got him home yesterday! We are so excited to get the show on the road with meeting Miss Pyper. She’s one of my most anticipated births, besides my own children.”
