Photographer (and photoshop whiz) Stephen Crowley has been creating the illusion his daughter Hannah is in “marginally dangerous situations.” He aims for “nothing unbelievable, but enough to make people think ‘Wait… did he really?'”

For the record, the answer is no — no, he didn’t leave his baby girl perched on a railing, let her drive on the freeway or play with knives, but it looks like she has.

Stephen’s images are one part fun, one part purpose.

To begin with, it’s worth noting he lives in Ireland where his wife works for the equivalent of CPS. He reports she’s “particularly bothered” by the pics, but he still gets a kick out of “tagging her in them on Facebook for her colleagues to see.”

But if you look carefully, he’s left hints they’re not real. “There are some strategic mistakes in some to prove they’re fake,” he shared. For example, “the speedometer shows 100km/h but the rev counter is at zero. And the knife purposely doesn’t cast a shadow.”

Of course, there’s been a bit of backlash. “The one on the fence was the first one I did,” Stephen explained. “Some random person on Facebook that I don’t know commented that I should be shot. This spurred me on to make more.”

Hilariously, he says those who view his work tend to fall in into one of three categories. There are the “outraged old people,” “the people that knew they were all photoshopped,” and more worryingly, “those that thought it was real but didn’t think it was a big deal.”

Along with taunting the haters, Stephen is driven to create with Hannah after she spent 8 months in the hospital. Since he’s caught everyone’s attention, he’s telling their family’s story to help raise awareness about becoming a donor.

The 32-year-old explained to BabyCenter:

“She had a very rare immune disorder called HLH and spent 6 months of her first year in hospital, receiving chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, which is the only possible cure. Of 27 million worldwide donors, 3 were deemed suitable, and an anonymous German lady donated.

Because we missed out on so much normal stuff of the first year, we take tons of photos now that we’re able to do normal things out of isolation. She is doing much better now, in and out of hospital, but she’s lots of fun, always smiling, and has a great sense of humor given what she’s been through so far.”

Stephen, who is a designer, “thought it would be fun to worry family by putting someone delicate in precarious situations.”

Undoubtedly little Hannah is still too delicate to take on these adventures for real, but she’s also obviously quite tough!
